Okay I will admit i got here by looking up “sufjan Stevens gay”
My only concern is I love his music, to death. and as you know most of it is about christianity and God. I just think it would be a disappointment if he was gay, since homosexuality is frowned upon in christian culture, none the less i would still listen to him if he was. but yeah…and on some of those gay notes…in the song “for the windows in paradise…” its Jesus speaking “i have called you preacher, i have called you son…i’ll do anything for you” not Sufjan.. so its not saying he got molested by the preacher or anything. but yes im also curious…and not shallow

i mean if sufjan was gay, it wouldn’t change how talented he is or my love for him, it’s simply out of curiosity, & those freaking out about people wondering about his sexuality need to seriously calm down. sufjan is a wonderful artist & his way of putting everything out there while still withholding so much mystery makes him even more amazing

Sufjan’s comment on Gacy (“In my best behavior, I am really just like him”) seems to me to derive from the Christian concept of original sin. Which is one of the most disgusting and ludicrous concepts I’ve ever heard. This is what Christianity does to you when you’re young: it keeps you believing you’re tainted.

I love Stevens, and think he is one of the most talented songwriters out there right now. I listen to three of his albums quite often. I believe he’d be just as effective without his religion; probably just redirect his energy (as he does anyway in some of his songs) toward more secular ideas.

Is he gay? Well, I won’t say it doesn’t matter. Don’t I have anything better to think about? Whomever asks that question, I ask you, what the hell are you doing on this page to begin with, you idiot. I care because sexuality is a powerful part of a person, and can drive many creative elements. I want to know because I am gay, and because I am a musician, too.

I think that Sufjan’s songs are really honest as a whole. I am under the impression that he is a Christian and does have faith in God, meaning to me that he believes, as the bible says, that homosexuality is wrong. This doesn’t mean he couldn’t have had problems with homosexuality. From listening to “The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us” it sounds like he struggled with homosexual temptations. As for “John Wayne Gacy, Jr” I interpret the last lines as saying that no matter what any of us do in life, our “best behavior” and our good deeds that we think we do are no better than any of the horrific things John Wayne Gacy, Jr ever did.

You’re a fucktard. I can’t say that Sufjan isn’t gay because I don’t know for sure. But I do know that your reasonings for him being homosexual aweful. Research his music and you’ll find that his songs are about historical events, NOT HIS. For instance, in the album “Illinois” and song “John Wayne Gracy Jr”, that is not about him, it’s about John Wayne Gracy Jr. (My God, it’s about the song name??!!!) (Who would have thought?) He was a creepy guy that dressed up like a clown and would rape males. NOT Sufjan. I hope this helps you, dumbass.

That made me laugh. And yeah, I typed “sufjan stevens gay” and got here. Just because I just now read on his site that he enjoys “knitting, crocheting, weaving, cleaning” among other typically gay interests. So I was curious.

oh my gosh….your kidding me right? You think he is gay? Are you really that shallow to not find anything more deep in his lyrics. He is not saying he is LIKE john wayne gacy jr. in a way like “I like to rape little boys,” but more in a way as “I am completely and utterly misunderstood.” Sufjan Stevens also has a faith in the Lord, and that is what most of his songs are about, not about homosexuality
